Bolton Wanderers are currently on a seven-game winless run in League One, stretching back to last season. However, an active transfer window has them well placed to compete for promotion this campaign, with the club now linked with a move for an attacker with an impressive track record in the third tier.
Steven Schumacher has seen an exodus of the squad’s top stars this summer, including George Thomason, Aaron Collins and Ricardo Santos. They have responded to these departures with a host of excellent additions.
Bolton Wanderers Continue to Target Quality Additions
Former Chelsea academy star Mason Burstow is an exciting loan signing, dropping down to League One for the first time since the 2021/22 campaign. The 22-year-old started the opening day defeat against Stockport County as the main man in attack; however, he can also play out wide, which opens the door for a new face to lead the line.
Thierry Gale is another interesting prospect, a left winger who is a permanent arrival from Rapid Vienna. Xavier Simons impressed in midfield on his debut, and a potential partnership with Ethan Erhahon could be a league best if the duo can adapt and play alongside each other.
Sam Dalby is a goalscorer and starred in Scotland last season, as did defender Richard Taylor. Teddy Sharman-Lowe is the new number one after helping Doncaster Rovers to promotion from League Two.
The starting team has a lot of quality, and when all of the new arrivals settle, this could be a major contender for promotion. They could be joined by another new forward with a track record of impressing in League One.
Charlton Athletic Forward Eyed For League One Move
Gassan Ahadme only arrived at Charlton Athletic for a fee reported to be in the £1 million range; however, he is now being reported as being the subject of interest from Bolton Wanderers yet again in this transfer window. The 24-year-old scored 13 goals on loan at Cambridge United and nine in 29 appearances over two spells with Burton Albion.
He failed to replace Alfie May after the forward’s departure to Birmingham City, scoring just one goal in League One as the Addicks were promoted to the Championship through the play-offs.
Ahadme scored three times in the FA Cup, and Alan Nixon (paywall) is reporting that the player is available for transfer this summer. The source states that Bolton Wanderers may target a loan move initially as the club have been struggling to add to their forward line.
A move for Johnny Kenny is faltering, and after starting the season with defeat, it is clear that Bolton Wanderers are not the finished product. It is expected that the club will bring in at least one new forward before the transfer window closes.
Schumacher’s outfit will host Plymouth Argyle this weekend in their next League One outing before travelling to Sheffield Wednesday in the Carabao Cup.
