Bristol Rovers star, Connor Taylor, has been in rich demand this summer, with numerous League One clubs eyeing the 23-year-old throughout the summer.

Now, the defender is set to complete his move back to League One, with Football Insider reporting that the former Stoke City man is set to undergo a medical with Wycombe Wanderers.

Taylor was also linked to Peterborough United earlier in the window, with the Posh failing to agree a price with the recently-relegated League Two outfit.

Who is Connor Taylor?

Recently relegated to the Gas, Taylor was a standout in what was a disappointing campaign for the South West side.

His first spell with the club was in League Two, in which the defender featured 47 times in all competitions as Joey Barton’s men miraculously clinched promotion, by way of goal difference, in a 7-0 demolition of Scunthorpe United on the final day.

Returning to Stoke the following season, the defender could not quite make the step up, making 18 appearances and limited for minutes with the Potters, which saw the central defender make the permanent switch to the Memorial Stadium in the summer of 2023.

From there, the young Englishman was a mainstay in the Gas’ defence, making 89 appearances across his two seasons with the club.

Standing out in the centre of defence, Taylor demonstrated numerous leadership qualities and the ability to play out from the defence during this time, emerging as one of the most promising defensive prospects in the EFL.

Following last season’s relegation, the defender was always very likely to remain at League One level, with numerous clubs higher up the third tier linked.

Connor Taylor to Wycombe Wanderers

In what has been a long-standing transfer saga, the defender is finally set for a move, with Wycombe the destination.

Having lodged an official bid just over a week ago, reports declared that the two clubs did not initially agree on their valuations of Taylor, despite the player pushing for the move.

Now, it appears the clubs have agreed on a fee, with the 23-year-old now due a medical in Buckinghamshire.

Wycombe’s long-standing interest in the defender comes as no surprise, with a rebuild in the defence a clear priority this summer, as stalwart Caleb Taylor returned to West Bromwich Albion while various members of the squad are approaching the latter years of their careers.

Having added Taylor Allen and Dan Casey from Walsall and Motherwell, respectively, Taylor’s arrival will further bolster Dodds’ new-look Wanderers back-line.

Outgoings at Bristol Rovers?

With the season underway and most clubs settled in their squads for the coming season, there are still transfer sagas ongoing at Bristol Rovers.

Particularly, the situations of Taylor and midfield maestro Kamil Conteh have been particularly long-standing, with the latter still linked with several suitors from the top end of League One.

And with the season underway, the remaining month of the transfer window could prove pivotal to the Pirates’ promotion prospects this season, with work to do on both fronts of the transfer market.
