League Two side Crewe Alexandra are locked in negotiations with a defender who has 290 League One appearances to his name.
Crewe started their League Two season with an impressive 3-1 away victory over Salford City on the opening day.
Manager Lee Bell will likely be hoping that the win is a sign of things to come for the side that finished midtable last campaign.
With the transfer market still open, Crewe are hoping to get a deal for free agent Oliver Turton agreed soon.
Crewe Want Turton
Turton has been without a club since leaving League One Huddersfield Town at the end of last season.
Alan Nixon has shared on his Patreon that Crewe are “trying to thrash out a deal” for Turton, who played 190 times for the club at the start of his career.
Turton was close to signing for Salford. However, a disputed medical cancelled the deal and has left the door open to a return to Crewe.
Turton’s Wealth of League One Experience
The 32-year-old full-back has had a successful career, playing predominantly in League One. He’s played 290 games in League One, as well as 61 games in the Championship.
Last season, Turton played 28 times for Huddersfield in League One. He started 18 games, averaging 66 minutes per game, and played a total of 1859 minutes.
The right back received an average Sofascore rating of 6.71. Defensively, Turton chipped in with 0.3 interceptions per game, 0.8 tackles per game, and 2.1 clearances per game.
Is This a Good Move for Turton and Crewe?
It seems like a smart move by Crewe to bring Turton back to the club. Since departing the club for Blackpool in 2017, Turton has made continuous appearances in League One and the Championship.
This wealth of experience can only be a good thing for Crewe, a side looking to move up the league and potentially challenge for the play-offs.
It also appears to be a good move for Turton. He’s coming to the back end of his career, and reuniting with the club where he got his start is a poetic way to potentially end his career.
He’ll be able to lead the team with his experience and offer insight he’s learnt from playing at higher divisions.
