Fleetwood Town striker Ryan Graydon is reportedly a transfer target for a host of League One clubs.

According to Sky Sports’ Lyall Thomas, third-tier sides Wigan Athletic, Plymouth Argyle, Lincoln City, and Rotherham United are all considering a move for the 26-year-old.

Graydon is in the final year of his contract at Highbury and may be tempted by the potential of a step up into the third tier.

Will Fleetwood Town Consider Parting with Key Player?

After a season of consolidation in League Two last season, which ended with a thirteenth-place finish, head coach Pete Wild endeavours to see his team mount a serious challenge this time around.

The Cod Army have certainly started like they mean business, winning their opening two league matches against Barnet and Bristol Rovers. They also pushed early League One pace setters Barnsley all the way to penalties in the Carabao Cup First Round.

Graydon scored nine times last season for Fleetwood, as he shared the top scorer honour with teammate Matty Virtue-Thick. The Irishman also contributed seven assists last campaign.

Having started both of their opening EFL League Two matches this term, it remains to be seen whether Fleetwood would be willing to let Graydon leave this summer.

After a feel-good start to the new season on the Fylde coast, Pete Wild must weigh up the risk of potentially losing him. Especially considering his importance to Fleetwood’s lofty ambitions.

Plymouth Argyle and Wigan Athletic Identifies New Target

Plymouth Argyle have endured a torrid start to life back in the third tier, losing both of their opening matches. While Tom Cleverley finally tasted his first victory in charge at Home Park against QPR in the EFL Cup, he knows the league form must improve fast.

The Pilgrims were particularly blunt in attack during their defeat at Bolton, failing to register a shot on target all afternoon.

Having suffered knock-backs in their pursuit of strikers Rumarn Burrell and Dale Taylor earlier in the window, they are still on the lookout for a goal getter.

The Devon club has already raided Highbury this summer, acquiring Brendan Wiredu back in July.

Owen Oseni found his shooting boots in the cup, but Tom Cleverley is still prioritising the need for greater support up front. The 6 ft 2 in Fleetwood man could be the answer to Argyle’s shot-shy start to the campaign.

Wigan have placed an emphasis on adding to their front line this summer, having already brought in Paul Mullin, Christian Saydee, and Callum Wright.

The Latics anticipate a strong campaign under Ryan Lowe, targeting a return to the Championship after three years away.

Rotherham United and Lincoln City Are Also Chasing Graydon

Graydon, who moved to Fleetwood from Irish club Derry City in 2023, is proving to be a highly sought-after man. Lincoln City are said to be keen on signing him after a relatively quiet transfer window regarding incomings for the Imps.

Having lost the attacking flare of Jovon Makama to Norwich City and Ethan Erhahon to Bolton, Lincoln are a little short of offensive options.

Michael Skubala would benefit greatly from the arrival of a target man as he looks to push for the play-offs this season.

Rotherham United have seen plenty of new arrivals in this transfer window, so far welcoming 10 players through the door at the New York Stadium.

To bolster their attack, the Millers might target Graydon as key support for talismanic striker Jordan Hugill and new signing Kion Etete. Manager Matt Hamshaw is looking to assemble a squad capable of competing in what is shaping up to be a high-quality EFL League One.

The tussle to secure Graydon’s signature could be a fascinating story to keep an eye on in the remaining weeks of the summer window.
