Championship side Hull City are close to seeing the departure of attacker Abu Kamara, with the Tigers in advanced talks with La Liga outfit Getafe over a deal for the Englishman.
The 22-year-old scored five goals for the East Yorkshire side last season as they scraped to safety in the second tier but is set to leave after just one year.
A move for the former England U20 international, who has featured in City’s first two games of the 2025/26 campaign, is expected to be completed in the next 24 hours, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.
Hull City attacker nears European move
Kamara only moved to the MKM Stadium in the summer of 2024 after starring in Portsmouth’s promotion from League One but has quickly earned himself a move to one of the world’s biggest leagues.
He made 37 appearances in all competitions for the Tigers last season, scoring five goals, and his performances have alerted Spanish side Getafe, who finished 13th in La Liga in 2024/25.
The club, whose squad includes former Real Madrid striker Borja Mayoral and ex-Watford defender Kiko Femenía, are managed by 61-year-old José Bordalás, who has an extensive managerial history in Spain, including being in charge of giants Valencia a few years ago.
Despite scoring just five goals throughout last season, Kamara’s input was vital to Hull’s eventual safety as just one player, Joao Pedro, scored more goals than him (six).
The former Norwich City youngster was also the club’s sixth-highest appearance-maker last year, with him being a regular feature in the team despite a turbulent season that saw new manager Tim Walter be replaced by Ruben Selles less than four months in.
How important was Kamara to the Tigers?
The London-born forward, who scored eight goals for Portsmouth in their third-tier title-winning season in 2023/24, was influential in Hull’s attacking output, producing the joint-most goal contributions (eight) in the team.
He also had the second-most shot-creating actions and take-ons, according to FBref, whilst ranking highly for interceptions, blocks and tackles, showing he contributed well to the defensive side of the game.
Although Kamara has only spent one season at the second-tier side, his departure will be a dent to the Tigers’ hopes for the 2025/26 campaign and, having spent a rumoured £4.5 million to sign him, they will hope to make a profit on him.
Where can Hull expect to finish?
With new manager Sergej Jakirovic in charge, the Tigers will be hoping to stay clear of the relegation zone after last season’s poor performances meant they only finished ahead of 22nd-place Luton Town on goal difference.
With the signings of experienced Championship players Semi Ajayi and Oli McBurnie as well as the exciting on-loan duo Joel Ndala and Joe Gelhardt, the former Dinamo Zagreb and Kayserispor boss has made some sharp additions.
They also have promising young players Charlie Hughes, Ryan Giles and Kyle Joseph already at the club so Jakirovic has a strong base group of players to build around.
Despite questions over chairman Acun Ilicali’s surprising sackings of Liam Rosenior and Selles in recent seasons, if Jakirovic is given time at the club to groove his squad, he should be able to help the Tigers settle for safety before aiming higher next year.
