Luton Town kickstarted their League One campaign with an uninspiring 1-0 win over AFC Wimbledon and have seemingly not concluded their business this summer, as they have reportedly made a move for a League Two forward.
Despite the arrival of Jerry Yates from Swansea City, the Hatters are still in the market for attackers. Gideon Kodua has joined on loan from West Ham and featured on the bench against AFC Wimbledon, in addition to Nahki Wells arriving on a free transfer to strengthen the forward line.
The 35-year-old led the line in the season opener.
Luton Town May Have to Wait For New Signings to Settle
The summer of change at Luton Town is continuing; however, it may take time for their ten new faces to settle at the club. They have added quality players, and four of their signings made their debut in the season-opening win over AFC Wimbledon.
Three points may represent an ideal start to the season, but the game was a dull affair with little in terms of quality on either side. There are several new players to be integrated into Matt Bloomfield’s squad, with trips to Peterborough United and Bradford City representing opportunities to introduce more of their latest stars.
On paper, Luton Town are significantly stronger than both sides. Their fixture list sees them face Posh this weekend before a tie with Championship side Coventry City in the Carabao Cup. The fixture with newly-promoted Bradford City is set for the 16th of August, and there could be yet another arrival before then after the club submitted bids for a League Two forward.
Two Bids Rejected For League Two Forward
Joseph Gbode is one of the most talented prospects in the fourth tier, having played 34 times in League Two for Gillingham in 2024/25. The 20-year-old scored three times, with two of those in his final appearances of the League Two campaign.
Gbode has proven he is comfortable on the ball in addition to his instincts inside the penalty area. All three of his goals came within the opposition box, and he ranked significantly clear of players in the Gillingham squad for successful dribbles per game last season.
Luton Town had reportedly been interested in Ali Al-Hamadi of Ipswich Town. However, they have now seemingly turned their attention to Gbode. Pete O’Rourke announced on X that two bids have been rejected by Gillingham for the forward.
It would represent a major step up for the player. He may have significant competition in forward areas for first-team minutes, but the League One promotion candidates clearly see potential in the player to help the aid their prospects this season.
