Wrexham defender Sebastian Revan has departed on loan, joining League One outfit Burton Albion for the season, as confirmed by Burton’s official website.

The former Aston Villa defender joined Wrexham last summer after impressing for Rotherham United in the Championship prior, but struggled for consistent gametime as the Red Dragons achieved automatic promotion.

Making league 19 appearances and starting only nine times, a move to Burton for the 2025-26 campaign is sure to promise more minutes to the versatile defender.

Sebastian Revan to Burton Albion

Capable of playing in multiple positions, both on the left and in central defence, Revan is one of the most promising young talents at EFL level, and a move to Burton could allow him to showcase this.

Making 37 appearances for Rotherham in the Championship in the 2023-24 campaign, his versatility and ability on the ball were one of the few shining lights in a relegated Millers side.

The Brewers have got off to a respectable start, emerging victorious against Mansfield Town on the opening day while competing well in an unfortunate loss away at Barnsley.

Revan brings a great level of depth and competition across the entire Burton defence, and his capability to play on the left of a back three will be a helpful asset for Bowyer, who generally deploys a 3-4-3 system.

Owen Dodgson was a crucial player in the Derbyshire outfit’s great escape last season, and the 22-year-old appears to be a like-for-like replacement for the now Stockport County man.

Adding to the likes of Dylan Williams, Kyran Lofthouse, and Toby Sibbick, the Pirelli is home to some very exciting defensive prospects.

What next for Wrexham?

Wrexham’s three consecutive promotions have been met with a large rate of player turnover, with the club constantly looking to take the next step.

However, at the age of 22, this loan move should not spell the end of Revan’s career at the Cae Ras.

This season is likely to see Wrexham look to establish itself in the Championship, as it could be too early for the club to compete with ex-Premier League outfits.

A positive season in League One could place the defender back into Phil Parkinson’s plans for the 2026-27 season, as there is still a mountain of potential to be met.

Currently boasting the likes of James McClean and Conor Coady – who are approaching the latter years of their careers – Revan could certainly look to compete for a starting place in North Wales.

What has been said?

On securing his man, Bowyer expressed his excitement at working with the player:

I’m delighted to have Seb join us, he’s a good player who we are looking forward to working with.

“He is a good one-v-one defender and is exciting going forward.

“He will fit in with how we want to play. A big thank you to Wrexham for allowing this to happen and to our owners once again for their support.”
