Championship side Wrexham are set to smash their record transfer once again this summer after agreeing a deal with a fellow Championship side.
Phil Parkinson and his team have been busy improving the Wrexham side this summer. Josh Windass, Conor Coady, Lewis O’Brien, Kieffer Moore, and Danny Ward have all joined the Red Dragons this summer.
With these signings, they’ve already broken their record transfer fee paid for a player twice. Their latest bit of transfer news is going to far eclipse the fees paid this summer for players.
Nathan Broadhead Set for Wrexham Medical
Anthony Joseph of Sky Sports News shared that Wrexham have agreed a £10 million deal with Ipswich Town for Nathan Broadhead. The player is on his way to Wrexham for his medical and to finalise the paperwork.
It was previously reported that the deal would cost the Red Dragons around £7.5 million, a figure that would have still smashed their record transfer fee.
Dharmesh Sheth also confirmed the deal, stating that Chuba Akpom’s arrival at Ipswich is a reason the club are allowing Broadhead to leave Portman Road.
How Impressive Is This Signing?
Broadhead joining Wrexham is extremely impressive, and not just because of the figure being paid for the Welsh international.
Last season, Broadhead played 18 games in the Premier League for Ipswich, starting seven times and averaging 39 minutes per game. He received an average Sofascore rating of 6.69.
The winger chipped in with two goals last season for the club. Broadhead finished the season with 0.7 shots per game and 0.4 shots on target per game.
Creatively, Broadhead created one big chance and had 0.4 key passes per game. He also recorded a passing accuracy of 82%.
What will likely be eye-catching to most Wrexham fans is his performances last time out in the Championship. In the season Ipswich Town achieved promotion from the Championship, Broadhead was a crucial part of that side.
He played 38 games, starting 29 of those games, and scored 13 goals in the league. Broadhead ended that campaign with a goal every 178 minutes per game.
If Parkinson can help Broadhead rediscover that form in the league, combined with the other quality attackers in the club, Wrexham could be in for another impressive season this year.
